It has hosted numerous professional tournaments like the Thailand Classic, and a golf course used prominently for PGA events in the Asian and European tours. Black Mountain Golf Club is always in the discussion for the best golf course in Thailand and consistently appears in magazines like Golf Digest among the top golf courses in Asia.

Let’s find out what makes the Black Mountain golf course so special, the kind of international-standard experience golfers can expect there, and why you should visit its fast greens.

Golf Courses In Hua Hin Thailand

You can find a golf course in any part of Thailand, but Hua Hin has been one of the best places that golfers have been visiting for nearly a hundred years to get one of the best-golfing experiences in the country. Ever since Thailand’s first international-standard golf course the Royal Hua Hin opened in the 1920s for the Thai aristocracy and British expats, the region has been home to the sport of golf with many other courses opening up over the years to accommodate the endless stream of golfers that arrive there.

It used to be that you had to take the train from Bangkok, but nowadays you can even fly directly to Hua Hin. Located next to the Gulf of Thailand, many golf courses there offer spectacular views of the ocean. There are plenty of five-star hotels and resorts where golfers can stay, take part in their favorite pastimes during the day, and head down to the beach to relax in the evening.

The climate in Hua Hin is great for golf with plenty of sunshine but not as much rainfall as in other parts of the country. Golfers can also expect a refreshing sea breeze to cool things down while they’re on the greens.

What’s Special About The Black Mountain Golf Club Hua Hin

The Black Mountain Golf Club located in a valley surrounded by mountains made of black granite was founded by Swedish golf enthusiast Stig Notlov. After running a successful hardware chain in his home country, Stig relocated to Hua Hin Thailand to follow his passion. This was to create a great course that even professional golfers found a challenge but also to make it into a golf resort where anybody could stay and play their favorite sport. To find out more about their story, visit the official Black Mountain Golf Club website.

Black Mountain Golf Club today is easily one of the top golf courses in Hua Hin Thailand for several reasons.

The Black Mountain Golf Course

The Black Mountain Golf Club experience is made up of three 09-hole courses called East, West, and North. Your 18-hole game is a combination of two of these courses, and the choice is up to you. TifEagle Bermuda grass is used for the greens which are very fast downhill and a tightly knitted Bermuda is used for the wide fairways. The large greens and multiple options for tee boxes make the course easily playable even for beginners.

Black Mountain Golf Club is one of the most gorgeously landscaped courses you will find in Asia, and it’s mainly due to its layout incorporating many natural elements like rustic creeks that were already present. The East course has many challenging water hazards including an island green, and the North course has shifting elevations that are perfect to test the skills of many competitive players. The West course is the latest addition which allows golfers to choose the type of challenge they wish to take on instead of limiting them to the same 18-hole experience.

Apart from this, there are numerous greenside bunkers, rocky outcroppings, sand, and plentiful trees to increase the difficulty even further. On the other hand, the large greens do offer the less-experienced player a chance to select pin positions that are generous to their skill level or select a safe route that removes some of the hazards for beginners. While only pro players will be able to handle the entire course, even the average golfer will be able to play there. Since the slopes do vary in elevation, it is best to rent golf carts to get around the Black Mountain Golf Club.

Black Mountain Has Won Numerous Awards

It’s not just us that are raving about Black Mountain. The club is fairly new compared to the older courses but since its opening in 2007, it has already won multiple awards in the regional and international arenas. It is widely regarded and constantly being named as the best course in Thailand, and the Asia-Pacfic region by reputable publications like Golf Digest magazine and Asian Golf Monthly. Black Mountain is also the first golf course in Thailand to be included in the top 100 courses to play outside the United States by US Golf Digest.

In 2015,  the Thailand Classic which was the first European Tour event to be held in Thailand came to Black Mountain.
