As digital nomads, we have always embraced any challenge that came our way. Adjusting to life in Thailand with a family of five and pursuing our respective professions took up most of our time before realizing that the little things were getting lost along the way. The stunning Phuket community was waiting just outside our doorsteps and it felt as if we had been living under a rock! So, we began expanding beyond our boundaries while partaking in more activities – taking back control over the small joys life has to offer us.
Driven by our enthusiasm to share the knowledge of Phuket that we had accumulated over time, Ushup was born. Our mission is to provide an accessible platform for travelers, ex-pats, and locals alike with helpful travel advice and experiences so they can make their Phuket life more enjoyable. Ushup was created to bring together people from all over the world with an admiration of Phuket. We are passionate about sharing our love for this incredible destination, and invite you on a journey like no other! Hey, I’m Chief
I’m the owner of a digital marketing agency. With a decade of experience in the digital marketing realm and five years as an independent remote worker, I have chosen to call Phuket, Thailand my permanent home. After visiting for the first time two years ago and falling head over heels for this captivating country – there was no turning back! Being truly immersed in Thai culture has been nothing short of transformational; allowing me to live life on my own terms.
Running your own company is no easy task, and I used to work 16-20 hours per day which eventually led to some serious health issues. After ending up in the hospital as a result of stress and poor lifestyle choices, I came to terms with the fact that something had to shift immediately.
I started training in Muay Thai which quickly ignited my love for fitness. Soon after, I started playing golf. Then it became clear that there was a world of fun and enjoyment that I had been missing out on! Phuket is more than just a picturesque destination – it’s an island full of surprises. There are so many things to do and explore.
My love for experiencing different cultures and new cuisines, learning local customs, and meeting remarkable people has been reinvigorated. I’m a firm believer that “the world is our classroom,” so I hope to explore as much of it as I can. Phuket encouraged me to be joyous yet healthier in mind and body. Now I want others to encounter this beautiful land like never before!
Hey, I’m Susu
I’m a working mom of three energetic children. Being a parent of three has its own unique set of challenges. When my first baby arrived, I gained some weight which I couldn’t shake off after the second pregnancy. In my younger days, sports like basketball and track kept me active but with children around, it was hard to make time for any fitness activity or even muster up enough energy for that matter. With the birth of my third child came an emergency c-section which made recovering from surgery particularly challenging.
Just three months after I gave birth, I started Muay Thai and instantly fell in love with it. Not only was it a great way to get back in shape, but I also felt like I could release some of the pent-up stress I had been holding onto. One thing led to another and I slowly began to explore more of Phuket, not just Muay Thai. I immersed myself in the local culture and the food, which was a major highlight for me. I was lucky to experience Thai massage and natural remedies in my journey toward recovery.
From hiking to snorkeling in crystal clear waters, each experience offered me the opportunity to discover something new about myself and the world around me. One of my favorite things about Phuket is discovering the hidden gems in plain sight – eateries full of unique local delights. From syrupy mango sticky rice to savory Pad Thai, every corner I turn holds a new culinary experience waiting for me!
Life as Expats in Phuket
Phuket is often called a paradise and it’s not wrong. With its beautiful beaches, friendly locals, and year-round tropical weather, it’s no wonder why so many people decide to live here. We are two of those people. We have been living in Phuket for over two years and have enjoyed every moment of it. We’ve experienced some of the most incredible sights, sounds, and flavors this country has to offer. From delicious seafood dishes to stunning sunsets over the Andaman Sea, we never get tired of exploring what this paradise has to offer.
